The FreePrints app, explained properly.

FreePrints is the app most UK searches for “free prints” mean. Its own site is thin on detail, so this page collects the answers: what is free, what every other size costs you, why postage is £3.99, where you can collect for nothing, and how the business works.

What is free

Up to 45 6x4" (15x10cm) prints a month, capped at 500 a year, glossy or matt, one free print per photo. That is the whole free offer. Everything below is paid.

FreePrints does not publish prices for the paid sizes on its website; they appear in the app when you select the size. Sizes up to 12x8 come in glossy or matt at the same price; 15x10 and larger are matt only. Our price comparison marks these as “priced in app” rather than guess.

Why is delivery £1.49 to £3.99?

Standard delivery starts at £1.49 for a small order and rises with quantity to a hard cap of £3.99. FreePrints states the cap on its homepage: “never more than £3.99, no matter how many prints you order”. A full 45-print packet is usually at or near the cap, which is why most people remember the figure as £3.99.

Whether that is a good deal depends on quantity. 45 prints for £3.99 is under 9p a print delivered, which beats every paid lab we track until you are ordering 200+. For five prints, £1.49 postage is 30p a print and the Snapfish UK app’s credit works out the same; a 20-minute Tesco collect would cost more per print but no postage. See how much postage is on free prints for the full breakdown.

Free collection points

FreePrints runs its own collection points where you pick up the packet and pay no delivery at all. The listed towns as of 7 October 2026:

  • Newton Abbot
  • Plymouth
  • Suffolk
  • Essex
  • Eastbourne
  • Cardiff
  • Powys
  • Milton Keynes
  • Northampton
  • Peterborough
  • Lincoln
  • Bolton
  • York and Harrogate

At checkout you enter the pickup code for your town (the codes are on the app home screen and in FreePrints’ FAQ) and the delivery line drops to zero. Collection is weekdays, roughly 9am–3pm for prints, so it suits people who live or work nearby rather than a special trip. If none of these is near you, the £1.49–£3.99 post is the option.

How does FreePrints make money?

The company behind it, PlanetArt, lists what you pay for on the FreePrints site itself: additional 6x4 prints beyond the free allowance or of the same photo, every other size from wallets up to 40x30 posters, and the delivery charge. Add the sister apps — FreePrints Photobooks, Photo Tiles, Cards and Gifts — which share the login and push offers inside the prints app. The 45 free 6x4s are a customer-acquisition cost, and enough people upgrade a size, order a duplicate or buy a book for the model to work. There is no data-selling surprise in the terms that we could find; the revenue is plainly from extras and postage.

Practical tips

  • Crop in the app before ordering. Phone photos are 4:3; a 6x4 is 3:2, so an edge gets trimmed.
  • Want the same photo twice? The second copy is paid. Order it once free and reprint next month.
  • Use FreePrints and the Snapfish UK app together for 95 free 6x4s a month.
  • Photos can come from the camera roll, Google Photos, Facebook, Dropbox or OneDrive.

Official FreePrints site

Free Prints UK is a directory. The app, the prints and the postage are FreePrints’.

Questions

Why is FreePrints delivery £3.99?

FreePrints charges standard delivery on a sliding band that starts at £1.49 and is capped at £3.99 however many prints you add. A full 45-print order usually lands at the top of the band. The postage is the price of the “free” prints; there is no per-print charge on the 45.

How does FreePrints make money?

From what it charges, which its own site lists: the delivery fee, extra copies of the same photo, every size other than 6x4 (wallets to 40x30 posters), and the sister apps for photo books, tiles and cards. The free 6x4s are the marketing cost that gets the app installed.

What size is a FreePrints wallet print?

FreePrints lists “Wallet” as a paid size alongside the standard prints. It is a small purse-sized print, not part of the free allowance. The exact dimensions and price appear inside the app when you select it.

Does FreePrints do posters?

Yes, as paid sizes: 15x10, 18x12, 36x24 and 40x30 inches, all in a premium matt finish. They are ordered in the same app; prices show at checkout.

Is there a FreePrints collection point near me?

On 7 October 2026 FreePrints listed Newton Abbot, Plymouth, Suffolk, Essex, Eastbourne, Cardiff, Powys, Milton Keynes, Northampton, Peterborough, Lincoln, Bolton, and York and Harrogate. Bitteswell is no longer on that list. The pickup code for each town is on the app home screen, and the delivery charge drops to zero when you use it.

Is the FreePrints app free to use?

The app and the first 45 6x4s each month cost nothing. You pay delivery (£1.49–£3.99) or collect for free at a listed point. There is no subscription.
